Information, Referral, and Crisis Intervention

All of us encounter moments and challenges that no one should have to face alone. Challenges can include workday stress, physical or sexual abuse, thoughts of suicide, financial issues, and the lingering effects of major life events like death or divorce. 

In times like these, MHA’s 24-Hour Call Center provides:

• A caring and supportive voice

• Resources and information that show the way forward

• Help in the midst of a crisis

• Services free of charge and available to everyone

In moments of crisis, our Mobile Crisis Services team meets people where they are, 24/7, offering immediate, no-cost support in the community. 

A team of mental health professions will respond to provide: 

• De-escalation of current crisis  

• Assessment of safety and behavioral health needs 

• Resources to address presenting concerns 

• SUD Peer Recovery Support

Often the first step for individuals seeking help, our Walk-In Crisis Care Center provides crisis intervention services in a welcoming, therapeutic environment.  

This service is available 24/7 to community members of all ages at no cost (those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian)

Common concerns addressed at Walk-In: 

• Emotional, behavioral, psychiatric, or relationship crisis 

• Thoughts of suicide, homicide, or self-harm 

• Substance use disorder 

• Resource connections to a therapist, psychiatrist, or other programs 

Other services offered include:  

• Navigation – collaboration with clients to identify long-term providers and other services as needed 

• Peer Recovery Specialist – a person with lived experience of substance use disorder recovery who helps navigate the steps to achieving recovery goals 

• Urgent Medication Evaluation/Management – short-term administration of medication while connecting to long-term providers 

Counseling Services offers culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care in a safe, confidential space. We work alongside each person to support healing, growth, and overall well-being.  

Services offered include: 

• Individual, group, family, and couples therapy  

• Medication evaluation and management 

• Telehealth options available 

The program accepts Maryland Medicaid and Medicare. 

• Individuals who are uninsured may qualify for a sliding scale fee based on household income and size.

A monthly gathering for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. In a safe and supportive space, participants can share, listen, and walk alongside others on the path toward healing. 

• Group is peer facilitated and meets once a month at MHA’s main location in Frederick.  

• This is a closed group with a screening process. Adults only at this time. Contact Taylor Hahn at thahn@fcmha.org for more information. 

Telephone Reassurance is a no-charge program that provides a regular phone call, a caring listener, and a friendly connection for Frederick County senior citizens who are 60 years of age or older and are: 

• Living alone and have few regular contacts 

• Couples, at least one of whom is disabled 

• Temporarily homebound following an illness, surgery, or hospital stay 

• Alone while regular caregivers are out of town
