Kids On The Block and
Yello Dyno

Kids on the blockThe Kids on the Block puppet troupe is a group of life-size puppets that dress and act like real children.  Kids on the Block provides educational programs in schools, camps and other youth venues that address social issues children face in today’s society such as bullies and school safety, personal body safety, the dangers of tobacco use, improper use of medications, and the benefits of eating right and exercising.  Read below for a description of our puppet shows.

Kids on the Block Puppet Troupe of Frederick County is an affiliate and limited licensee of The Kids on the Block Incorporated, Columbia, Maryland, USA.*

Bullies and School Safety

This Bullies and School Safety presentation helps children promote sensitivity toward peers, cope with bad situations, and provide specific strategies to make schools a safer place.  It explores issues such as defining what constitutes bullying, problem solving techniques, intervention strategies, and increasing awareness of human similarities and differences.

Personal Body Safety/Child Abuse Prevention Program

Children learn how to protect themselves from physical and sexual abuse. Personal Body Safety/Child Abuse Prevention performances are offered to Frederick County Public Schools to accompany the 3rd grade Personal Body Safety Curriculum and to community groups under the supervision of a responsible adult who is equipped to handle abuse discussions.

Keeping Kids Safe and Healthy

In the Keeping Kids Safe and Healthy presentation, children learn the negative effects of smoking and the importance of accepting medicine only from an adult who is caring for them. The difference between medicine and illegal drugs is also discussed.  Children are instructed to have an emergency plan with care givers and not to go with strangers who may use tricks to lure them into unsafe situations.

Eat Right & Exercise

The Eat Right and Exercise presentation focuses on the relationship between food and physical movement and their effect on weight and mental health.  The possible causes of unhealthy lifestyles are discussed while encouraging children (and adults) to set realistic goals and achieve them through small changes.  Children are encouraged to consider food as fuel for the body, increase daily physical movement by making more active choices for free time and promoting sensitivity, understanding and acceptance of different body types.

Yello Dyno Safety Party

Yello Dyno Safety Party teaches personal body safety to young children through music, song, and dance.  Participants learn simple safety rules they can easily recall in emergency situations through the Yello Dyno Safety Party.  Using bright visuals, role plays and props, Yello Dyno teaches children to identify “Tricky People” and to seek help if they are in danger. This program is appropriate for children from pre-school age through second grade.
